A multidisciplinary interventional pain medicine centre to serve Abbotsford and the Fraser Valley.

Update September 3, 2024

Intravenous (IV) Iron Infusions

For patients with a diagnosis of low iron, intravenous iron is a fast-acting alternative to oral iron supplements. The advantage of IV iron is that it can rapidly increase hemoglobin stores, reversing the effects of iron deficiency anemia such as feeling fatigued.

IV iron infusion requires about 30 minutes to complete, and a rest period of 30 minutes before being discharged. The cost of medications will depend on your insurance coverage, and will be provided directly from the pharmacy. A referral from your family doctor is required as the infusion will be administered by a specialist.

Please inquire with the clinic if you have further questions.

The Referral Process

We’ve got you covered

Most of our services are covered under the Medical Services Plan (MSP) or under extended health insurance. Being a specialist clinic, we require a referral from your general practitioner before we can see you. Please ask your primary practitioner to contact us at 778-757-1302 for referring information, or visit our website.

Our Services

What we can do for you

Fluoroscopic and Ultrasound Guided Epidural Injections

An epidural injection is a procedure which involves injecting corticosteroids (steroids) and local anesthetic into the epidural space around the spinal cord under fluoroscopic (x-ray) or ultrasound image guidance. Image guidance insures the steroid is injected in the precise location it is intended for.

Epidural injections are a common treatment for many types of low back and leg pain.

Radiofrequency Ablation

Radiofrequency ablation is a minimally invasive procedure that involves the destruction of specific nerve tissues to prevent the transmission of pain signals that cause chronic pain.

If you have responded well to diagnostic nerve blocks, radiofrequency ablation may provide longer lasting pain relief.

Platelet Rich Plasma Treatment (PRP)

Platelet rich plasma, or PRP, can help stimulate growth factors that trigger cell reproduction and tissue regeneration. Platelets are a type of blood cell that play an important role in healing throughout the body. When PRP is injected into a tendon, ligament, muscle or joint, the regenerative properties of PRP can help stimulate healing and reduce pain.

PRP is a low-risk procedure and does not cause major side effects. The process involves drawing a small sample of blood, which is spun in a centrifuge to separate the PRP from red blood cells. The PRP is then injected into the site of injury under ultrasound image-guidance. After a short wait to ensure there are no complications, the process is complete.

PRP treatment is not covered under MSP and there is an out of pocket fee for the treatment. If you have extended health insurance, please speak to your provider about possible coverage.

Spasticity

Spasticity is abnormal muscle tightness due to prolonged muscle contraction. Common causes of spasticity are stroke, multiple sclerosis (MS), traumatic brain injury, spinal cord injury, and cerebral palsy.

Botulinum toxin (Botox) injections can be used to paralyze spastic muscles, preventing contraction. Botox is injected in small amounts to selected sites using a fine needle. The effects of Botox can last 12-16 weeks, but as new nerve endings form, the muscle will no longer be inhibited by the Botox and a repeat injection will be required.

Like all other procedures, Botox is most effective in combination with physical therapy and/or occupational therapy.

If you would like more information about how Botox works for spasticity or find out if you qualify for coverage, please contact our office at info@initiumcpm.com

Joint, Tendon, Bursa Injections

Botox for Migraines

BOTOX® is a prescription medicine that a medical professional injects into muscles to prevent headaches with chronic migraines (15 or more days each month, lasting 4 or more hours each day).

Botox usually takes effect 24-72 hours after injection, with maximum effect at about 1 to 2 weeks. Its effects generally last for approximately 3-4 months.

Although the FDA has approved Botox for use in preventing migraine headaches, it is not covered through basic medical plans. You will need to pay for BOTOX injections yourself unless you have coverage through an extended medical plan and have received approval.

Please speak to a member of our staff if you have any questions.
